Repetition is something you can always expect in programming. You will always end up using the same algorithms for certain purposes, so it would make sense to save the code snippets somewhere and use them when you need to. This is precisely what you can do with Cacher. However, the application is much more than a glorified notepad application. You can organize your snippets in a logical manner, tag them and even share them with a team.

Cacher is available for Windows, Mac and for the Ubuntu and Fedora Linux distributions. It can be installed in a matter of seconds, without making any complicated settings. There are no special requirements you have to meet and you don't need powerful hardware to run the software.

The user interface is designed for efficiency and comfort. Everything can be done on the fly, with only a few clicks. Furthermore, it uses a familiar layout. Snippets are displayed in a list, along with various details and options and you can see their contents on the right side of the window. Also, you can manage snippet collections, labels, teams and other elements that help you manage your snippets on the left side of the window.

Adding snippets to the database is a straightforward procedure. Specifying a title and typing or pasting the actual code is sufficient, but you can do a few other things as well. You may type in a description, specify a language if you want to enable syntax highlighting and set the snippet to public or private. Also, you can add multiple snippets in the same entry, which can be quite useful if you have similar pieces of code.

Besides managing your own library locally, you can also create teams and invite other people to join. When creating a new team, you can send out invitations by simply filling in email addresses. It is also possible to assign roles to each individual. They can be either simple members or managers, if you want to let them edit snippets. Also, the possibility of setting snippets as public or private really comes in useful in this particular situation. Another advantage is the fact that people can collaborate with each other from different platforms, so it doesn't matter if they are Windows, Mac or Linux users.

Efficiency, comfort and convenience are just a few things you can expect from Cacher when it comes to sharing code among developers.

Pros

You can write down and save code snippets on the fly. The application lets you organize and label everything in an efficient manner. It is also possible to invite other people to view your snippets and contribute to the library.

Cons

There are no obvious design flaws or functionality gaps to address.
